These guidelines are for law-enforcement and government agencies requesting information about WheresNow users. They are not legal advice and don't create any rights.
Who we are
WheresNow is operated by CodeScale (Pvt) Ltd, a private limited company incorporated in Sri Lanka (registration no. PV 00250947), Bille Watta, Wahava, Rambukkana 71100, Sri Lanka.
How to submit a request
Send requests to [email protected] with the subject line Law enforcement request, from an official government email address. A valid request must include:
- the issuing agency, the officer's name, badge or ID number, and contact details
- the legal process relied on (for example a court order, subpoena or warrant) and a copy of it
- the WheresNow account identifier: the email address or phone number registered to the account
- the specific information requested and the period it covers
We review each request against applicable law. We are a Sri Lankan company, so we respond to legal process that is valid in Sri Lanka. Agencies outside Sri Lanka should make their request through the Sri Lankan authorities, using the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act, No. 25 of 2002, or an applicable treaty. We may reject or narrow requests that are unclear, overly broad or not supported by valid legal process.
Emergencies
If there is an imminent risk of death or serious physical injury, mark your email EMERGENCY and explain the emergency. We may disclose information without legal process where the law allows.
WheresNow is not an emergency service. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
User notice
Our policy is to notify users before disclosing their information, unless the law prohibits it, a court has ordered us not to, or notice would put someone at risk of harm. If a non-disclosure obligation later ends, we may notify the user then.
What information we may hold
What we hold, and for how long, is described in our Privacy Policy. Location history is kept for a limited time and may no longer exist when a request arrives. We can't preserve or produce information we no longer hold.
Preservation requests
On receipt of a valid preservation request, we will preserve the specified information we still hold for 90 days while formal legal process is obtained. We may extend this once by a further 90 days if you ask before the first period ends. Preserved information is only disclosed under valid legal process.
