Safety is not surveillance
The core principle behind WheresNow is consent and transparency. Every member of a circle knows they are in it. Every member can see who else is in the circle and what permissions they have. There are no hidden trackers, no secret modes.
This matters because trust is the foundation of any healthy family relationship. An app that erodes trust, even if it makes parents feel safer in the short term, ultimately does more harm than good.
Real-time location without the anxiety loop
One of the most common patterns we see is parents refreshing location apps every few minutes, creating an anxiety loop that does nothing to keep anyone safer. WheresNow is designed to break this pattern.
Instead of compulsive checking, we encourage setting up smart alerts:
- Get notified when your child arrives at school
- Get notified when they leave a geofenced zone

The 2-month history feature and why it exists
The 2-month location history was one of our most requested features. Parents told us they didn't want real-time surveillance, they wanted to be able to look back if something went wrong.
If a teenager says they were at a friend's house but you are not so sure, you can check. If there is an incident on the road, you have historical data to share with authorities. This is reactive safety rather than proactive surveillance, and it sits much more comfortably with families.
Privacy controls your family can trust
Each member of a WheresNow circle controls their own visibility:
- Ghost Mode pauses your live location for a set time, 1 hour, 8 hours, until tomorrow, or indefinitely, for one circle at a time. It's transparent, not invisible: the rest of that circle sees a paused indicator next to your name, they just can't see exactly where you are.
- Set quiet hours so location sharing automatically pauses at night
- Granular permissions so you share location with family but not your location history
- Bubble Privacy lets you decide whether circle-mates can add you straight into a Bubble without asking first. It's on by default; turn it off and you'll no longer show up as an option when someone else builds their bubble, though you can still create or join one yourself anytime.
These controls are not buried in settings. They are front and center in the app because we believe your privacy is yours, not ours to manage on your behalf.
