Understanding Battery Usage

WheresNow is designed with advanced algorithms to minimize battery consumption while maintaining high location accuracy. However, if you notice unusual drain, there are several things you can check.

How WheresNow Saves Battery

We use "dynamic frequency" tracking. When a member is stationary, the app reduces GPS pings. When motion is detected, tracking frequency increases to ensure real-time accuracy.

Troubleshooting High Consumption

1. Check Background Apps

Other apps running in the background might be using GPS simultaneously, which compounds battery drain. Close unnecessary apps that use location services.

2. Signal Strength

In areas with poor cellular or GPS signal, your phone works harder to establish a connection, which can significantly drain the battery.

3. Screen Time

Frequent use of the "Live Tracking" feature (watching a member move in real-time) consumes more battery because the screen remains active and the app is in high-frequency mode.

4. Battery Optimization Settings (Android)

Some aggressive battery savers can actually interfere with how WheresNow pings the server, causing it to retry more often than necessary.

  • Go to Settings > Apps > WheresNow > Battery > Set to "Optimized" or "Unrestricted".

Tips for Better Battery Life

  • Keep your app updated to the latest version.
  • Use Wi-Fi whenever possible, as it is generally more energy-efficient than cellular data for location services.
