Easy Setup, Secure by Default: Getting Started With WheresNow

WheresNow is built to be simple to set up and secure by default — one-tap invites, consent-based sharing, and bank-grade encryption from the moment you create your first Circle.

Family safety apps are only useful if people actually finish setting them up. WheresNow is designed so that the entire onboarding — from download to your first shared location — takes just a few minutes, without cutting any corners on security.

Set up in minutes, not menus

Getting started with WheresNow follows three simple steps:

  1. Download the app and create an account with email or Google Sign-In.
  2. Create a Circle — give it a name like "Family" or "MyFamily."
  3. Invite your first member via a one-tap link or a QR code.

There's no lengthy configuration wizard and no confusing permission maze. Most people have their first Circle running, with one other person connected, in under five minutes.

Consent-based from the first invite

Every invite in WheresNow is a two-way handshake. The person you invite has to accept before they appear on your map, and the moment they do, your location appears on theirs too — never the other way around in secret.

This is deliberate. WheresNow has no hidden or one-way tracking mode. Each member decides what they share:

  • Live location — on or off, per Circle
  • Location history — visible to others or kept private
  • Device status — battery, signal, and connectivity, shared or hidden

Consent isn't a one-time checkbox either — any member can pause sharing, adjust what's visible, or leave a Circle at any time, and the change takes effect immediately for everyone in it.

Bank-grade encryption, running on CodeScale infrastructure

Ease of use doesn't come at the expense of security. Every location update, message, and status ping is transmitted over bank-grade, end-to-end encrypted channels. WheresNow is built and operated on CodeScale's infrastructure, with no third-party ad trackers or analytics SDKs sitting between your family's location data and your Circle.

That means:

  • No silent background sharing with anyone outside your Circle
  • No data resold or repurposed for advertising
  • Full visibility into who can see your location, at all times

Why setup security matters as much as the map

A family safety app that's hard to trust gets uninstalled — or worse, gets used in a way that damages trust between family members. By keeping setup fast, consent explicit, and encryption on by default, WheresNow aims to be the kind of app everyone in the family is comfortable being part of, not just the person who installed it.
