Circle Radar: Find Every Family Member at Once

One ring, every Circle member's direction and distance at a glance — Circle Radar replaces one-at-a-time compass checks with a single view of your whole family.

The map tells you where everyone in your family is. It doesn't tell you which way to walk to reach them — especially in a crowded place like a theme park, a festival, or an airport, where "where" and "how do I actually get there" are two very different questions.

Until now, if you wanted a direction and distance to walk toward someone, you'd open the Compass screen for that one person. Useful, but one person at a time. If you're trying to regroup with four family members scattered across a crowd, that meant checking four separate screens in sequence.

One ring, everyone at once

Circle Radar replaces that one-at-a-time flow with a single screen showing your entire Circle simultaneously. Open it from the + FAB on the map, and every member appears as a coloured dot on a ring around you, positioned at their real bearing and relative distance. Instead of four lookups, it's one glance.

Colours that match the map

Each member has a persistent, unique colour that matches their dot and pin on the main map. If your sister is teal on the map, she's teal on the radar too — no relearning who's who between screens, no guessing based on initials or avatars.

When people overlap, or drift out of range

Two situations make a plain ring layout break down, and Circle Radar handles both directly:

  • Overlapping members — if several people are close enough in bearing that their dots would collide, they're grouped into a single cluster with a count badge (like "3 overlapping markers") instead of stacking illegibly on top of each other.
  • Members too far to place usefully — anyone far enough away that a dot on the ring wouldn't mean much is instead shown in a distance-sorted list below the ring (e.g. "~4.2 km"), so distant family members are still visible, just presented differently.

Tap anyone — solo on the ring, inside a cluster, or in the distance list — and it opens that person's single-target Compass view, with the walk-toward-them arrow and live distance you're used to. Circle Radar is the overview; Compass is still where you go for the last stretch of actually navigating to someone.

Nobody just disappears

If a Circle member currently has location sharing turned off, they don't vanish from the screen. They're shown in a clearly labeled "Not sharing right now" section, so you always know who's on the radar and who isn't — the same transparency principle behind Ghost Mode elsewhere in the app: no one is silently hidden from the people who count on knowing where they are.

Circle Radar is a Circle-only feature — Bubbles work differently and aren't included here. Think of it as the second half of a pair with the map: the map answers "where is everyone right now," and Circle Radar answers "which direction do I walk, and how far," for your whole family at once.
